In Depth | Moons – NASA Solar System Exploration Of the terrestrial (rocky) planets of the inner solar system, neither Mercury nor Venus have any moons at all, Earth has one and Mars has its two small moons In the outer solar system, the gas giants Jupiter and Saturn and the ice giants Uranus and Neptune have dozens of moons
In Depth | Our Solar System – NASA Solar System Exploration Introduction The planetary system we call home is located in an outer spiral arm of the Milky Way galaxy Our solar system consists of our star, the Sun, and everything bound to it by gravity – the planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune; dwarf planets such as Pluto; dozens of moons; and millions of asteroids, comets, and meteoroids Beyond our own solar
Final Adv RPS Report - Publicly Accessible Version 11-16-05 A long-lived Venus surface mission is considered beyond the capability of the advanced RTG considered in this report due to the extreme pressure and temperature that would be encountered there (90 bar and 460°C) - a mission-specific RPS generator would be required for this application
In Depth | Europa – NASA Solar System Exploration The similarities don’t end there Each planet in the inner solar system is less dense than its inner neighbor – Mars is less dense than Earth, which is less dense than Venus, which is less dense than Mercury The Galilean moons follow the same principle, being less dense the farther they are from Jupiter
Planet Compare – NASA Solar System Exploration NASA’s real-time science encyclopedia of deep space exploration Our scientists and far-ranging robots explore the wild frontiers of our solar system

Extreme Environment Report - NASA Solar System Exploration The Soviets sent their first probe into Venus before the severity of the surface conditions was known, but by the time of the last mission they had developed the technology for surviving, making measurements in the surface environment, and acquiring samples within the constraints of a mission limited to two hours of surface time
Aerial Platforms for the Scientific Exploration of Venus The Venus Aerial Platforms study involved 52 participants with expertise in Venus science, planetary mission engineering, and aerial platform technology A process developed by the Keck Institute for Space Studies (KISS) was used to perform the study, which was conducted at the KISS conference facilities at Caltech A range of possible Venus aerial platform concepts were considered and
